The long trip to Butte built up a powerhouse of energy for the Pirates who defeated the Butte Central Maroons 33-21 in a Class-A non- conference game last Saturday.

The Pirates had a slow start in the first half of the game but came shining through in the second half scoring 19 points in the third quarter.

Kevin Owen made two touchdown runs and totaled a team-high 115 yards and three scores on 20 carries. Andy Nelson scored an insurance touchdown on a fourth quarter run. Joe Locke made a 25-yard scoring pass to Colton Woods.

"We had 45 rushes for a total of 245 yards," Pirate Coach Scott Wilson said. "We ended up six for 14 for 91 yards passing. Our leader was Terry Lundeen, he had six tackles and forced a fumble and had a sack. John Galton had 4 tackles two assists and also had a sack. Mac Gordon had five tackles, five assists, caused a fumble and recovered a fumble. Specser Irwin had four tackles and one assist and an interception."

Wilson said the team will be concentrating on doing a better job and getting up to speed on the first two quarters of the game.

"The Kids responded to the adjustments we made at halftime during the Butte game, said Wilson. "These adjustments and improvements should help us as we continue to play throughout the season."

The Pirates will play against Covallis in Polson at 7:30 this Friday night.
