Both candidates for Sheriff are good men
Editor,
Lake County voters will decide on who is to be the next sheriff. Their choice is between Sheriff Bill Barron or Deputy Lucky Larson.
There is no question as to the fact these are both good men, both have worked for the betterment of our children. I consider both good friends, but really there is no comparison between the two in experience and education.
I encourage the voters to compare the accomplishments and the experience and training that both candidates have, then decide.
There has been some controversy in reference to a political ad placed by Sheriff Barron last week in the two local papers; some would suggest that it was a slam towards candidate Lucky Larson. It was not. It was meant for the reader to simply compare the qualifications of the two.
I personally would not be comfortable with a sailboat captain sailing an aircraft carrier unless he had the training and the experience in doing so. I feel the same way as a deputy with no training in administration and very little in supervisory skills.
A letter in one of the papers suggests that Sheriff Barron has no confidence in Deputy Larson. This also is not true. In fact, I visited with Sheriff Barron the day Deputy Larson was promoted to Sergeant. Sheriff Barron also told me that other advised against it, but he felt in his heart that it was the thing to do, and that Lucky was doing an excellent job and deserved to be promoted.
Another letter also suggests that Sheriff Barron used a nasty political ad to attack Deputy Larson; this also is not true. In fact, upon hearing a rumor on the street, Sheriff Barron went to Lucky Larson's home and wanted him to know that the ad placed was not an attack towards him.
Lucky responded that he knew Bill and knew it was not meant as an attack and that he was OK with it. Deputy Larson and Sheriff Barron have a good working relationship contrary to what some believe. I caution voters to be aware that there are rumors being passed around the county against both candidates. Use caution here: Both of these candidates are above board both on and off duty. I looked into these rumors and found them to be without merit.
