Honor pass fundraiser

The 8th grade honor pass will have Indian Tacos on May 12 and 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the 7th grade hall of the middle school. Please come to eat dinner before enjoying the Cabaret!

Masumola Club meets

The Masumola Club meeting will be held Thursday, May 12 at the clubhouse. The social gathering begins at 5:45 p.m., potluck at 6:30 and program at 7. The program will feature the Burlesque Dancers.

Pachyderms meet

Caryn Miske, Executive Director of the Flathead Basin Commission, will be the guest speaker at the Lake County Pachyderm Club Friday, May 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the Rural Fire Department Hall on Airport Road, Polson. Her topic will be “Aquatic Invasive Species in the Flathead Basin: Economic and Environmental Impacts,” an important and timely subject as the threat of, or presence of invasive species in pristine Flathead Lake should be of great concern to local residents.

Cherry blossom fest

The Yellow Bay Community Club will hold its 8th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Yellow Bay Clubhouse on MT Highway 35 (mile-marker 18). This annual fundraiser supports the Yellow Bay Club’s charitable activities and clubhouse maintenance projects. For more information, call Barbara at 982-3064 or email hammons@centurytel.net.

Run for education

The 6th Annual 5K and 1.5-mile Run for Education will be on May 14 in St. Ignatius. All proceeds go towards a fund that awards scholarships for this years seniors. Race time is 10 a.m. and starts and ends at the high school track. Late registration and shirt pick-up starts at 9 a.m.

Rocky Point clean-up

The Annual Rocky Point Clean-Up will take place on Sunday, May 15 (Rain or Shine). Litter clean-up from 3:30 – 5 p.m. meeting at the Masumola clubhouse for area assignment.

Valley View potluck

The monthly potluck for the Valley View clubhouse will be Sunday, May 15 at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Bring your favorite potluck dish to share and enjoy visiting with family and friends. Mark your calendar for these future potlucks: June 5, July 10, August 14.

Stakeholders meeting

There will be a meeting of the Polson Main Street stakeholders on Wednesday, May 18 at 6 p.m. in Polson’s City Hall.

Cultural Activities Day

The Arlee School will host its K-12 American Indian Cultural Activities Day on May 18. A social powwow will be held in the new gym from 1:15-3:15 p.m. The school extends an invitation to all community members.

Montana author series

Please join the Ronan City Library in welcoming another talent in Bill Rossiter in our 2011 Montana Author Series on Thursday, May 19 from 7-9 p.m. Bill’s presentation is called “Home, Home on the Ranch.” The program features songs accompanied by guitar, banjo, autoharp and harmonica.

Because of Montana’s rich and sometimes troubled agricultural tradition, and because many of the songs describe incidents common to any ranch or farm, it is likely that audience members will have stories, recollections and songs to share. I will encourage and ask them to do so.

Geocachers meet

Come and meet local Polson geocachers at the North Lake County Public Library (formally Polson Public Library) meeting room on Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m. Learn how to search for the more than 50 geocaches in the immediate Polson area. See how to navigate the geocaching.com website, see many types of caches close up and take a look at a range of handheld GPS devices. For more information please contact Doug Crosby 883-4187.

Support Polson Late Afternoon Social Hour will be May 19 from 5-7 p.m. Your host will be the Miracle of America Museum located at 36094 Memory Lane. The event will include music by the Country Combo. Flathead Lake Cheese will offer free samples of locally made cheese and the museum will provide the ice cream treats at the fountain.

Recycle your E-waste

Recycle your electronic waste at the 2nd Annual Lake County E-Waste event on May 19 and 20. On Thursday, May 19, electronic waste can be recycled at SKC from 3 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Joe McDonald Health & Fitness Center. On Friday, May 20, e-waste can be recycled at the Lake County Transfer Station from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everything $10 and under is free, but see www.lakecountyrecycling.com for prices on larger items.

Bike and walk to school

Friday, May 20 is Polson Bike and Walk to School Day. Help us celebrate National Bike Month by riding your bike or walking to work on this day.

After-Tax Shred Day

Community Bank will be hosting their 4th Annual Community After-Tax Shred Day on Friday, May 20. Everyday someone is a victim of identity theft. To protect you from this fast growing consumer fraud, a mobile shredding truck will be at our Polson Branch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to shred two file-sized boxes of your personal documents. All are welcome to use this service at no cost. Please contact Nellie for more information, 883-0600.

Rock concert

Leon Young and his Christian band will be performing a free concert at the St. Ignatius High School gym on May 20 at 7 p.m. Leon is currently on tour and is a successful Christian rock band who was the opening act at the Rock and Worship Roadshow. The concert was a sold out event at Adams Center in the University of Montana on March 4.

Charlo firework event

A Mission Valley Firework fundraising auction and dinner will be on Saturday May 21 at Leon Hall in Charlo. Dinner will be Sloppy Joes, served from 5-7 p.m. A silent auction will be during that time and a live auction will begin at 7 p.m. Come join us for dinner and an opportunity to support your local community.

This fundraising event is for the annual Fourth of July fireworks show in Charlo. The fireworks are only possible because of peoples’ generous donations. If interested in donating an item or cash donation or volunteering your time, please contact Tracy Olsen 396-3168.

Author visit

Spend an evening with award winning Montana author, Ruth McLaughlin, on Tuesday, May 24 at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the North Lake County Public Library in Polson. Ruth McLaughlin’s book, Bound Like Grass, is the recipient of the 2011 Montana Book Award. McLaughlin will read a selection from her book, answer questions and sign books.

BDE dinner event

Everyone is invited to join the BigArm, Dayton and Elmo Association on Friday, May 27 at the Elmo Culture Center (Pink Hall) for a fundraiser spaghetti dinner. The dinner, fun and fellowship begin at 6:30 p.m. and will continue until 8 p.m. There will be door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, aphgan raffle and music by Wilfred Kenmille and friends.
