ST. IGNATIUS - The Ronan Maidens have come a long way throughout their first season in Class B and despite a pair of losses last week, continue to make strides as a team.

On Thursday, Feb. 9, the Maidens got 12 points from both Ashley Grandchamp and Courtney Clairmont, but the Mission Lady Bulldogs downed the visitors 48-35.

"Against Mission, we shot the ball a bit better and executed, but they outrebounded us," Ronan head coach Clayton Curley said.

The Maidens hung around early, down just five after one and nine after two quarters, but the Lady Bulldogs kept the pressure on in the third, building a 15-point lead, which they held onto for the win.

Four other Maidens scored, including a season-high five from Kianna Howell.

The following night, Grandchamp brought the thunder again, scoring another 12 points as the Maidens gave Columbia Falls a run before being defeated 62-40.

"She's one of the keys to our team," Curley said of Grandchamp. "She brings the ball up the court and her game reflects how we play. She's extremely important."

Clairmont added 10 points of her own, hitting double digits for the sixth time this season.

Columbia Falls gradually took control of the contest in the first three quarters, taking leads of 14-7 after one, 38-18 after two and 48-24 after three before the Maidens punched back in the fourth with 16 points.

Despite the loss, Curley continues to see improvement in his squad.

"The girls have been better with the ball," Curley said. "They're still coming along."

Raymi Clairmont and Aspen Jore each added six points for Ronan, who ended the regular season with four wins, an improvement from one win a year ago.

The Maidens' season ended Tuesday, Feb. 14 in a 51-28 loss to the Bulldogs. Nine players scored for Ronan, led by Courtney Clairmont's seven.
