Jean Mackie Cumming

Jean Mackie Cumming, 90, passed away at her home on Saturday, Dec. 28.

Born on April 30, 1923 to Harold and Nellie (Twichell) Mackie in Southern California, she went on to become a newspaper reporter after education at Santa Barbara State.  She married James A. Cumming in 1942 and as a military wife she lived numerous places before settling in Columbia Falls in the late 1940’s, where James was an attorney.

Jean had many passions in life, her family, Garden Club, and her cats, but her main passion was horses and horse shows.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother Sonny Mackie and a grandson who died in infancy.

She is survived by children Ed (Loree) Cumming and Jewell Doty; grandchildren Tricia, Jerry, Kenny, Dennis, Kim, and Michelle; 17 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls with Memorial Services being held at 2 p.m., Thursday in the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Polson.   In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the D’aste Women’s Club, Mission Valley Garden Club or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Condolences may be left at fosterfhandcrematory.com
