Grizzly bear closure in Mission Mountains

McDonald Peak and the surrounding areas in the Mission Mountains Tribal Wilderness will close to recreational activities on July 15 and remain closed until October 1.  This area known as the Grizzly Bear Management Zone is closed annually in order to avoid human disturbance to grizzly bear activity.

Summer softball teams gear up for state ASA

Although Polson-based softball teams took a respite from ASA competition during the Fourth of July holiday, other softball squads were not on such a holding pattern this past weekend.  Several Mission Valley area players sprinkled among the rosters of Missoula-based softball teams were creating their own variation of fireworks while wielding a bat at the plate since dry weather conditions canceled the lighting of conventional fireworks celebrations.

Go seventeen miles north of Joplin, Mont., turn left at the blue house, drive four miles on the gravel road, and then park in the wheat field on top of the hill. Laid out before you is a very old baseball field with a small creek flowing through it. I would not recommend driving down on to the field. You might get stuck in alkali.

Polson Fire Chief resigns: Cottle to take over as Interim Chief

After 23 years of service on Polson’s police and fire departments, Fire Chief John Fairchild resigned Wednesday. Clint Cottle, Polson’s Assistant Police Chief was promoted to Interim Fire Chief, according to city of Polson Public Information Officer Karen Sargeant.
