Kolby Finley delivered more airmail than Fed Ex, and senior DaVonne Curley had a game he will never forget as Ronan toppled Livingston’s Park High School Rangers 43-14 to improve to 4-4 on the season in Western A football action on Friday, Oct. 13.

“Kolby had a great game and really settled into finding his receivers Friday night,” Ronan Head Coach Matt Detwiler said. “DaVonne Curley had a dream senior night: three touchdowns and an interception.”

The Chiefs got off to an impressive start as Jason Teague II hit a 26-yard field goal, and Curley caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Kolby Finley for the 10-0 first-quarter lead.

In the second quarter, Curley caught a 41-yard and 26-yard touchdown pass from Finley, Teague hit a 32-yard field goal, and Finley punched the ball in the endzone from two yards out for the 34-6 halftime lead.

The scoring was lower in the second half, but Teague hit a 26-yard field goal, and Laurance Lozeau ran the ball in from three yards out in the final quarter to round out the scoring for Ronan.

Finely had 150 yards in the air on 10-for-19 passing with three touchdowns and rushed for 96 yards and another touchdown. Michael Ramirez also rushed nine times for 95 yards. Curley finished the game, having caught six balls for 118 yards.

Ronan improved to 4-4 overall, but in reality is 3-4 in Western A play since technically the Park game was a “non-contest” according to Detwiler, since it was scheduled to fill a bye week.

“We have to go beat Columbia Falls this week to have a shot [at the postseason] and be at 4-4,” Detwiler said.

Columbia Falls is currently leading the Western A Conference with a 5-1 record and will be a challenge for the Chiefs on the road. A win, however, could give Ronan momentum in a postseason situation.

“They are extremely athletic,” Detwiler said. “They also have so much depth on their roster, which is where we lack greatly. Our guys that play usually play the whole night on each side of the ball, including special teams.”

Ronan’s 43 points was the highest point total this season for the Chiefs, while the 14 points allowed was the second-lowest number of point scores given up by the defense.
