HELENA — At the Capitol last week, a bill aiming to promote the availability of locally produced food in Montana schools was killed in committee after being denied funding.

Sponsored by Rep. Greg Hertz of Polson, House Bill 471 – better known as the Farm to School bill - enjoyed a robust 70-29 supermajority on the house floor, but once it reached the appropriation committee, legislators balked at the $300,000 grant that the bill called for.
