Polson, Ronan softball compete in Great Falls tourney

At the USA Softball Falls Fusion Classic in Great Falls this past weekend, there were five teams from the Mission Valley area in attendance including a Polson-based Lady Pirate squads for each age group along with the Ronan’s 14U Maidens.

After going 2-1 in pool play, the 18U Polson Lady Pirates were derailed during their semifinal matchup by the eventual tournament champion. In similar fashion, Polson’s 14U team were also sidelined during the semifinal of the gold bracket by the eventual tournament champion. The 14U Ronan Maidens won their opening round matchup in the silver bracket over Dillon 14-2 before being ousted by the Bitterroot Sparks.

The Great Falls Fusion won the 16-18U high school age bracket. Featured among the Fusion’s roster is a handful of two-time defending State AA champions from the Great Falls Bison, that include two-time Montana Gatorade Player of the Year Anna Toon.

The 14U age bracket was won by the Missoula-based Montana Avalanche.

The 12U Lady Pirates swept their pool play competition, but were soon beat out by Billings 406 Flyers in the opening round of the gold bracket.

Polson’s 10U Lady Pirates struggled to generate runs during pool play. But once they got routed to silver bracket competition, they marched their way into the championship before falling to one of the Great Falls Fusion squads.

Several Mission Valley area based teams will be in attendance at the Emeralds SMASH tournament in Kalispell this weekend.
