The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council on Tuesday ended a temporary suspension of recreation access on tribal land for non-residents of the Flathead Indian Reservation.

The tribal council ordered the restrictions March 31 as a public safety measure to help minimize exposure and community spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Tribal conservation permits are required for individuals age 12 years and older. Fishing permits are also required for non-member residents age 14 and older. Both can be purchased at select local vendors or online. Visit http://csktnrd.org/fwrc/recreation for more information.

The Tribal Wildlife Management Program encourages people to carry bear spray while recreating. Bear spray should be readily accessible and the user should know how to use it.

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Natural Resources Department also is asking that community residents tread lightly while recreating on tribal land.

Tribal game wardens are working regular shifts and will be out patrolling daily.
