Western C 8-Man roundup: Vikings hobble Horsemen

| September 16, 2020 12:15 AM

At Charlo, the host Vikings took early hold of the reins of the game against the visiting Horsemen of Plains. A Roper Edwards short range plunge, a quarterback keeper by Coyle Nagy along with a defensive gem when Phil Marquez picked a pass and returned the swipe three quarters of the field for a pick six would put Charlo in the drivers seat 20-0 at the half.

A tandem of second half TD runs interspersed with Air Nagy passes to Dawson DuMont and Marquez would seal the shutout.

Charlo has now won more games than last season and are slated to visit the Troy Trojans on Friday.

Bulldog gridders baretly edged by Mountain Cats

At Superior, the visiting Bulldogs of Mission and the host Mountain Cats of the Clark Fork coop engaged in the equivalent of a gridiron slugfest that would tilt in favor of the host team.

Mission would trail by a mere touchdown after the first quarter and sought to erase the deficit on numerous occasions, only to have Clark Fork successfuly craft a counter.

Mission and Clark Fork would match each other stride for stride the following quarters, the Mountain Cats successfully repelling enough Bulldog incursions into their half of the field to hold on the the victory.

The Bulldogs are slated to host the Blackhawks of Seeley Swan this Friday, air quality permitting.

Tale of Tigers: Too many tallies tangle Warrior gridders

At St. Regis, the Warriors tangled with an Idaho/Montana 208/406 Tiger coop between Mullan and St. Regis. The game was closely contested in the early going with the Warriors countering the opening drive by Mullan/St.Regis when Jake Knoll recovered a fumble and returned it 19 yards for a touchdown. The successful conversion would knot the contest at eight apiece.

Arlee would briefly take the lead on a Jace Arca short yardage scamper, 14-8. But thereafter, the scoring resembled a back-in-the-day Esso Petroleum commercial about having a Tiger in your tank as the Mullan/St.Regis coop reeled off multiple scoring drives.

The Warriors were able to craft a tally in the second quarter from just inside the redzone when Noah Coulson, filling in for Charley Crawford, would connect with Kendall O'Neill for six. But by the time intermission rolled around, the Warriors were trailing 20-42.

The third period would feature a trifecta of Tiger tallies to put the visitors that much further ahead.

The Warriors were able to match the Tigers stride for stride during the final frame as Jake Knoll both rushed as well as caught a reception for touchdowns. Successful pass conversions from Noah Coulson to his receivers meant that the Warriors outscored their opponent the final quarter.

Arlee is slated to travel to Victor to rattle their gridiron equivalent of sabers with the Pirates on Saturday, air quality permitting.
