Lady Pirates rebound from season's first loss

Two days after experiencing their first loss of the season, an 8-7 game at Class AA Glacier on May 21, the Lady Pirates softball team bounced back with a resounding win at home over Class AA Flathead two days later.

Lexy Orien went 3 for 4 from the plate and abruptly ended the game with a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning that gave Polson (13-1-1) a 10-0 win.

Katelyne Druyvestein struck out eight and allowed just one hit on her way to another win. She also had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.

Mckenna Hanson went 2 for 3, as did Jaivin Bad Bear. Kobbey Smith hit a two-run double.

The relatively easy victory came on the heels of a tough loss at Kalispell, where the Lady Pirates rallied with four runs in the top of the ninth but came up a run short.

Josie Caye and Kobbey Smith singled to open the seventh. SaVanna Carpentier drew a walk with two out to load the bases, and Mckenna Hanson followed with a grand slam to close the gap to a single run. But that would be as close as the Lady Pirates could get.

Glacier pounded out six hits in four innings against Druyvestein, who also struck out five. Turquoise Pierre relieved Druyvestein in the fifth and pitched two no-hit frames while striking out two.
