View from the Library: Ghostly gathering should be a scream
“Montana’s Treasured Past: Ghost Towns and Gold” is a fun, interactive program that will be on display at the library at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14. Join Lizzy as she guides you on this tour around Montana’s ghost towns on the National Geographic Giant Map of Montana. Our paranormal enthusiast will share some spooky stories of Montana’s history, perfect for a crisp October eve. After the program, we invite you to share your own ghost stories or experiences you have had while visiting these intriguing places. Please wear socks if you would like to walk on the map, and we are asking that you wear a mask since we will be in a confined room. Attendance will be limited to allow for social distancing.
The library is closed Monday, Oct.11 so that the staff can accomplish a big reorganization of the adult fiction section. This project has been nearly three years in the making, and we are finally through putting genre stickers on the 7,700-plus adult fiction books. This organization method is often referred to as the “bookstore model,” but you may have heard us refer to it as “genre-fying.” We will have maps and clearly labeled sections to make finding your favorite genre easier. Organizing our collection this way will allow us to identify how popular a genre is, discover what genres we are missing or lacking, and will give you an opportunity to discover new authors in your genres of choice. We hope you enjoy this change.
We have a new technology librarian. Sierra Ross is taking appointments and helping with walk-in technology questions or problems. She can help with all of the various apps and digital services and equipment the library offers, as well as some basic tech help for smartphones, email, Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite. She is already planning a class for November, so be sure to watch the library’s website for details.
The library’s poster display of “September 11, 2001: The Day that Changed the World,” will be available for viewing through the month of October. If you have not stopped in to see this moving exhibit, be sure you do. The posters are in the library foyer.
Mother Goose programs are held each Monday at 9:15 a.m. in the library meeting room. These programs for babies, toddlers and their caregivers include stories, nursery rhymes and songs. Gwen Hadrits from Lake County Public Health will join us Oct. 25 with lots of fun activities.
The library is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The hours from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday and Friday are reserved for those 65 and older, or those who are immunocompromised. Please wear a mask during this hour.
