A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and died along U.S. Highway 93 in Lake County on Friday night.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department identified the woman Saturday as Maureena Twoteeth, 31, of Pablo.

Twoteeth was in the northbound lane of the highway around 6:30 p.m. around mile marker 32 near St. Ignatius when she was struck by a 2018 Dodge Ram, according to a Montana Highway Patrol incident report.

Lake County 911 received a report just before 6:30 p.m. Friday of an apparently intoxicated person walking on the highway. One minute later, a 911 caller reported they believed they may have struck a pedestrian in the same area, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Ram was being driven by a 22-year-old female from Bozeman, who had a 20-year-old male passenger from Polson.

Twoteeth was declared deceased at the scene.

The roadway was dry, and investigators do not suspect that excessive speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor on the part of the driver.

The investigation is being conducted jointly between the Lake County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office and the Montana Highway Patrol. No arrests have been made and the person who struck the pedestrian has been cooperating with the investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
