Prep sports roundup: Pirates finish season undefeated

POLSON – After jumping out to a 34-13 halftime lead in Friday night’s regular season finale, the Polson Pirates held off a second half scoring surge by the visiting Whitefish Bulldogs to come away with a 34-27 Northwestern A conference win. The victory also kept the Pirates’ undefeated season intact at 9-0.

Pirate quarter back Jarrett Wilson threw TD passes to Tyler Wenderoth, Dawson DuMont, Tommy Sherry and Trent Wilson, while finishing the night 15 of 25 for 196 yards. Wilson also rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Polson earned a Class A first-round playoff bye as the No. 2 seed in the Western A and will host the winner of this Saturday’s game between Dillon and Frenchtown on Nov. 5.

On Friday night in Dillon, the Ronan Chiefs wrapped up their 2022 football season with an overall record of 1-7 in a 42-0 shutout loss to the hosting Beavers.

Charlo Vikings 53, Troy Trojans 8

The Charlo Vikings advanced into the post season Friday night with a 53-8 road win over the Troy Trojans.

“It's good to be back after a four-year drought,” said Viking head coach Reese Cox in regards of reaching the post season. “We are looking forward for the playoffs and putting it all on the line for a win.”

Senior QB Hayden Hollow threw one touchdown and rushed for two additional touchdowns to lead the Vikings.

Also for the Vikings, seniors Gus Shrider, Stetson Reum, Tucker Love and Keaton Piedalue each had touchdowns.

“We were able to get a touchdown with all four seniors, and the best part of that was the celebration from all their teammates,” noted coach Cox.

The Vikings open the first round of the 8-man playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday on the road against Belt.

Columbia Falls Wildkats 3, Ronan Maidens 2

The Ronan Maidens fell in straight sets 25-9, 25-23, 25-15 to the visiting Whitefish Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

For the Maidens, Leina Ulutoa booked four kills and nine digs, while Seattle Chartraw floored an ace and had six assists.

Also for Ronan, Margaret Cordova had nine digs, Lauryn Buhr posted four blocks, and Kylie Fetui had six assists.

Playing in Columbia Falls on Thursday, the Maidens battled the hosting Wildkats in a five set 25-21, 11-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-10 loss.

Ulutoa led the Maidens with 10 kills, five blocks and 18 digs. Chartraw added 27 assists.
