Polson Seniors: Ban April Foolishness

April Fool’s Day is traditionally April 1, the day that some play practical jokes or propagate hoaxes upon their victim. After the prank, the perpetrator usually yells “April Fools”!

Now these jokesters are not supposed to do any harm toward their victims. Usually the victim is embarrassed for being so gullible. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Victims may take umbrage toward the perpetrator, up to and including a violent confrontation. Some people can’t take a joke.

There is enough tom-foolery going around these days. We don’t need to encourage it on April Fool’s Day. Call your legislator. Organize now for action against the tyranny of fools trying to be funny.

The last day to file taxes is April 18. Free tax-filing assistance is available on Mondays or Thursdays from now until April 13. Come in or call for an appointment and pick up a filing information packet.

Some members are interested in a regularly scheduled “board game night” in which a number of games may be offered, such as Scrabble, cribbage, Yahtzee, Uno, Chinese checkers, etc. Separate tables will be set up for separate games; leave contact info at the center.

The Ronan Senior Center is hosting pinochle games every Monday from 3:30-6 p.m.

Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: bowling for fun, 1 p.m. Tuesdays; bridge, 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays (beginners welcome); low-impact exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; Tai Ji Quan – Moving for Better Balance, 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays and 1-2 p.m. Wednesdays (new people are welcome); pinochle, 12:30-3 p.m. Thursdays; bingo, 7 p.m. Fridays ($100 payout on blackouts), with playing card bingo on the first and third Wednesdays. The pool table is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

A veteran’s representative will visit the center from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 18.

Meals are available for sit-down, take-out or delivery from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. weekdays and cost $5. The menu is posted each week at the center; call before 10 a.m. for deliveries.

Main dishes include: turkey ala king, March 30; meatloaf, March 31; chili/mac soup, April 3; lasagna, April 4; chicken divan, April 5; pork chops, April 6; and a fish dish, April 7.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays at 504 3rd Ave. E. For more information, call 406-883-4735 or email polsonseniorcenter@gmail.com.
