Armed Forces Day is May 20. Since 1949 this holiday signifies the unification of the three branches of the armed forces into one unified force under the Department of Defense. Previously each branch had their own national day.

Nearly 1.7 million active-duty personnel are currently serving in the military, on the land, the sea, and in the air. Fly the flag and send a thank-you card to someone you know that is currently serving our country.

The ladies that play Mahjong need another game set. If you have one to give away, bring it to the center.

The center is hiring additional staff for our kitchen. Stop by for an application.

We are also looking for additional members for the board of directors, which meets once each month. We are always seeking volunteers willing to serve the senior citizens in our community.

Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: low-impact exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; pinochle, noon-3 p.m. Thursdays; bingo, 7 p.m. Fridays ($100 payout on blackouts), with playing card bingo on the first and third Wednesdays. The pool table is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

A veteran’s representative will visit the center from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, June 2.

Meals are available for sit-down, take-out or delivery from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. weekdays and cost $5. The menu is posted each week at the center; call before 10 a.m. for deliveries.

Main dishes include meatloaf, May 18; baked cod wedges, May 19; chicken and dumpling soup, May 22; baked pork chops, May 23; taco salad, May 24; Polish dogs, May 25; and Birthday Dinner for Lunch, featuring roast beef and all the trimmings, May 26.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at 504 3rd Ave. E. For more information, call 406-883-4735 or email polsonseniorcenter@gmail.com.
