Mission-Arlee-Charlo takes second at B-C Divisionals

Florence-Carlton scored all its runs in the first three innings en route to the Western B-C Divisional Softball title on Saturday, May 20, with a 9-3 victory over Mission-Arlee-Charlo. This game marked MAC’s third tournament encounter with the Bitterroot Valley team.

During the final game of the tournament, MAC had 11 hits as a team, including four by Hayleigh Smith. The Lady Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the first but were blanked until the top of the seventh.

Payton Smith and Bennan Andersen each had two hits, while Smith drove in one run.

Florence-Carlton had 13 hits as a team.

MAC entered the state tournament in Anaconda with a 25-3 record and the Western B-C’s No. 2 seed.

In the earlier game on Saturday, MAC defeated Florence-Carlton in a rematch posting a 10-7 victory. Due to the double-elimination format, this was the first time Florence-Carlton had lost, and the two teams had to play again in the finals.

Jerny Crawford drove in four runs and had a double and a sacrifice in the victory.

MAC led 6-5 after three innings, but Manhattan tied the game in the top of the sixth. MAC responded with a four-run rally to go ahead for good.

Hayleigh Smith, Rheid Crawford both had multi-hit games, while Rheid Crawford drove in two runs and doubled. Payton Smith also doubled and drove in two runs.

Izzy Evans, Jada Domebo, and Kason Page combined to scatter 11 Florence-Carlton hits, allowing seven earned runs and striking out two.

The two undefeated teams first met Friday, when Mission-Arlee Charlo fell to Florence-Carlton 12-9 in a winners’ bracket matchup that had plenty of scoring. The Lady Bulldogs had 13 hits as a team but committed five errors in the loss.

Florence led 1-0 after three innings, but MAC took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth. They rallied for four runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth to go up 7-3, but Florence-Carlton scored nine runs n the bottom of the sixth.

MAC tried to rally with two runs in the top of the seven but couldn’t get over the hill. Payton Smith had three hits.

Izzy Evans had a home run and two RBI in the game, while Lettie Umphrey also had two hits, and Bennan Andersen drove in two runs. MAC left ten runners on base.

Evans pitched five innings, while Smith and Jada Domebo pitched the final inning.

MAC beats Manhattan, twice

Coming through the consolation bracket of the Western B-C Divisionals, MAC faced Manhattan and beat them first Friday, 11-7, and again Saturday, May 20, 16-5.

In Friday’s game, Mission-Arlee-Charlo overcame an early deficit. Izzy Evans pitched a complete game, striking out five, walking two, and allowing eight hits and four earned runs.

Down 6-4 after three innings, MAC rallied for three runs in the fourth, then two in both the fifth and sixth innings. The team finished with 15 total hits. Hayleigh Smith had four hits, a double, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Journey Crawford had three hits and drove in two runs, while Payton Smith and Lettie Umphrey had two hits.

In Saturday’s contest, Rheid Crawford had three hits, including two doubles and an RBI, while Izzy Evans had two hits, including a home run.

MAC led 9-2 after three innings, scored five runs in the sixth, and two more in the sixth. MAC finished with 18 hits as a team. Hayleigh Smith, Payton Smith, Lettie Umphrey all had multi-hit games. Payton Smith also drove in two runs, and Umphrey had a triple.

Jada Comebo, Kason Page, and Payton Smith combined to allow just nine Manhattan hits and struck out two in the win.

Mission-Arlee-Charlo opens with Three Forks win

Mission-Arlee-Charlo started their Western B-C campaign with a 7-1 victory over Three Forks on Thursday, May 18. Rheid Crawford and Izzy Evans had two hits in the contest. Crawford drove in two runs.

MAC led 2-1 after three innings, then scored two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth, and two more runs in the sixth. The Bulldogs finished with ten hits as a team. Lettie Umphrey had a triple, while Hayliegh Smith had a double.

Bulldog pitching didn’t walk a batter in seven innings, with Payton Smith and Izzy Evans combined to card a six-hitter.
