Mission Valley residents garnering recognition in healthcare and education include:

Dr. Bernadette Corum, the medical director for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Tribal Health, was among 10 healthcare professionals who graduated recently as the 11th class of the Healthcare Excellence in Leadership Program (HELP).

According to the Montana Medical Association, HELP is a top-tier leadership program aimed at equipping these professionals with the leadership skills needed to create positive change in their practices, hospitals and surrounding communities.

Emily Alford of Arlee and Willow Coefield of St. Ignatius, who both attend the University of Montana, were recently elected to membership in The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. They are among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Tamika Guardipee, a student and athlete at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo who volunteers 15 hours weekly in local schools and 10 hours at kids' camps, was among a select group of student-athletes celebrated for their achievements beyond athletics Nov. 23 during the annual "Brawl of the Wild" football game. The matchup between the Montana State University Bobcats and the University of Montana Grizzlies typically draws a crowd of 23,000.

Governor Greg Gianforte, Commissioner of Higher Education Clayton Christian, and leaders from the Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE), including college presidents and chancellors, took the field at Bobcat Stadium to present the prestigious Montana Athletes in Service awards, honoring exceptional community contributions by student-athletes.
