Polson Seniors: Nutrition funding could be at risk

A significant amount of funding for the nutrition program comes from the local Area 6 Council on Aging. They are reliant upon funding from the state and federal governments, which are considering drastically cutting funding for all nutrition programs, including schools.

Remember who you voted for and call them. Yes, your vote does matter, but sometimes not as you intended.

Spring is just around the corner, but snow will probably be over by April, or not. Try reading more and stay away from TV and cell phone garbage. Reading is fun, inexpensive, and brain healthy.

Free AARP Tax Preparation Assistance is available through April 15. You must make a reservation by calling or stopping by the Polson Senior Community Center. Available appointment times are 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays only.

Bowling “no-tap” is Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m. Join any time.

Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: wood carving for beginners, 1 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, join any week; self-guided, video-assisted exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – move it or lose it!

Bingo is 6 p.m. Fridays ($100 blackout), with the next playing card on Wednesday, March 6.

Pinochle is now offered two days a week: 12:15-3 p.m. Mondays or Thursdays, three- four- or five-handed. Late arrivals are OK.

The Spinning Wheelers meet 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month (March 5).

Invite a foursome for Wednesday Play Day to play cards, board games, dominos, Mah-Jong, etc.

The pool table is open for play 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

A veteran’s service officer visits the center on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month.

Meals are available for sit-down from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays, and delivered to qualified people who call before 10 a.m. A suggested donation of $5 helps support the nutrition program.

Upcoming main dishes include Carolina hot dogs, Feb. 27; Birthday Dinner for Lunch with roast pork and fixings, plus cake, Feb. 28; cheese soup and sandwich, March 3; lasagna, March 4; baked chicken, March 5; tacos, March 6; and biscuits and gravy with sausage links, March 7.
