Need some good news?

| June 12, 2025 12:00 AM

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one …” (John Lennon)

Need some good news? Here you go: Most people still support: the Constitution, the Statue of Liberty, free speech, the Fourth Estate, separation of church and state, separation of powers, our institutions, due process, the law, the courts, the emoluments clause, the elimination of Citizens United, higher education, international students, public education, uncensored history, freedom to read anything, research, science, the environment, the arts, public lands, national parks, women’s rights, the right to resist, peaceful protests, free and fair elections, affordable healthcare, soft power (USAID), cultural differences, the value of travel, freedom of and from religion, moral behavior, empathic treatment of ALL people, kindness and grace.

Most people are good. Immigrants are people; therefore … (Logic 101). We are all members of the human family and citizens of the world. The more we get to know each other, the better we are.

The soul of our nation is strong. America’s strength lies in its underlying character and purpose at the grassroots level. Good people will continue to produce excellent work in all fields, regardless of cuts and firings. We are resilient, and we will survive this turbulent time.

“We the people” can love our country deeply while disagreeing strongly with government policies. Good people know that politics doesn’t have anything to do with humanity. Hope lives.

“I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will live as one.”

– Nancy Teggeman, Polson
