ST. IGNATIUS - It's summer, and the highway is full of people - and animals - on the move. For local wildlife, it's never a good day for a drive in the country. Western painted turtles, skunks, black bear, deer, elk and moose often fall victim to vehicles because wild animals don't know to look both ways before they cross the road.

Lightning strikes spark several small fires
ARLEE - A violent, windy thunderstorm struck the Mission Valley Friday evening, felling trees and tangling branches amongst dangling electrical lines.Despite the intense bolts, fire crews were able to contain several small fires and remove fallen trees from downed power lines.

POLSON - Donald Sigurd Jensen, 79, of Elmo died quietly Aug. 3, 2004, at his home after courageously fighting a long illness. He was born April 12, 1925, to Walter and Lillie Jensen, and attended school in Polson until joining the Navy soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was attached to the Sixth Marines Division as a Seabee and was sent to China and the Philippines, where he was engaged in the Battle for Leyte Gulf.

POLSON - John Hosch Weaver, 89, of Great Falls and Polson died of natural causes on Saturday July 31, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital in Polson. He was born on Sept. 4, 1914, in Great Falls to James and Bertha K. (Hosch) Weaver. He grew up in Lewistown and graduated from Fergus County High School. John attended the University of Montana and received a Bachelor of Business and Psychology, before attending Harvard Law School and graduating in 1939.
