Repeat sexual offender sentenced to 25 years in prison
Scott Reum was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Lake County District Court last Wednesday, Dec. 22, for three counts of felony sexual assault and failure to register as a sexual offender. The 30-year-old resident of Polson is a repeat sexual offender.

SPOKANE - The Rev. John Dutzar, 89, pastor emeritus of the First Presbyterian Church of Polson, died Monday morning, Dec. 27, 2004, in Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane following a lengthy illness. He was pastor of the Polson church from 1965 to 1980 and prior to that served West Glacier, Coram and Martin City churches.

POLSON — Residents who turned out for last Thursday's public hearing on the draft preliminary groundwater use agreement between the state and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes got some good information as to the intent of the agreement, but most folks said afterward it raised more questions than answers.

This past Tuesday I witnessed a small town board in action. I have to admit that I had hoped for, and indeed expected, more logic and realism than what occurred at that meeting. After all, just because we're a small town doesn't mean we can't be reasonable and logical.

HD 12 case heads to Montana Supreme Court
POLSON — The saga of who will represent House District 12 and which party will control the House of Representatives continued this week. The Lake County District Court decision upholding the findings of the recount board as a tie vote between Constitutionalist Rick Jore and Democrat Jean Windham was appealed by Anita Big Spring to the Montana Supreme Court last Friday, the same day that District Judge Kim Christopher issued her conclusions.

RONAN — Seth Clary finished up a strong dual meet for Ronan wrestling versus Frenchtown with a major decision over Curtis Sprague at 98 lbs. He tossed his opponent around like a rag doll at the end of a 45-40 Frenchtown victory that was filled with forfeits.

POLSON - The House District 12 recount drama continued until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, ending in a tie vote between Constitutionalist Rick Jore and Democrat Jeanne Windham. Each received a total of 1,559 votes and Jack Cross got 1,107.

POLSON - Arthur Gervais, Jr., 89, of Polson died of natural causes on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Evergreen Health & Rehab Center. He was born June 19, 1915, at Menominee, Mich., to Arthur F. and Katherine (Dax) Gervais. He attended grade school and high school in Beloit, Wis., and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Mining Engineering.
