State tries to stop meth use
HELENA - State Supt. of Public Instruction Linda McCulloch and Attorney General Mike McGrath have announced a new pilot program to prevent the use of methamphetamine among Montana's young people.
Richard L. "Dick" Hertz died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at his home in Polson.
He was born in Bridger on July 10, 1933, at the home of his parents, Adam and Helen Hertz. Dick grew up in Billings.

Tribal police ask for help in violent offender search
PABLO - After exhausting every other possible lead, Tribal Police Chief Craige Couture is asking the community for assistance with the search for violent offender Douglas Harvey Garfield. Garfield, a convicted felon, is wanted on a $100,000, nationally recognized warrant for arrest after fleeing from Tribal police officers during a routine traffic stop near Pablo.

Larsen faces criminal charges again
Patrick Michael Larsen, 18 and three others were arrested and cited with common scheme criminal mischief the last week of September in Flathead County. Larsen faced juvenile rape charges last fall when he raped and assaulted a 15-year old Bigfork girl in Ferndale in October 2003.
College style basketball is coming to Ronan
RONAN - Ronan Activity Center director Gale Decker announced this week that the Western Montana College basketball team has been challenged by a group of former college basketball players to a pre-season scrimmage Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Ronan Activity Center at the Ronan Middle School.

Annual bison roundup has become a widely anticipated spectacle.
The Annual Bison Roundup began bright and early Oct. 4 in Moiese. What was never intended as a public event has become one of the area's most anticipated spectacles. One of the last great vestiges of the Old West was the roundup from a range area covering over 18,000 acres. The purpose was to thin the herd and monitor bison health.
