RONAN — Duane P. Martin, 63, died May 13, 2005, in Tucson, Ariz. He had fought a courageous seven-year battle following a bone marrow transplant and numerous surgeries and setbacks. He was a man whose devotion to his family and friends was marked by gentle strength, character, and integrity. He also possessed a special sense of humor and a quiet charisma. Through his love for life, his unwavering sense of direction and down-to-earth wisdom, he was a wonderful example to all of us who had the honor to know him and love him.

ST. IGNATIUS — The Mission Bulldogs boys tennis team finished the regular season by completing one of their goals set forward by coach Martin Ashley. Coach Ashley wanted his team to play well against the top ranked, four-time state champion Cut Bank team, which Mission was able to defeat Friday, 4-2.

Gudrun was preceded in death by her husband, Ian Smart Lochhead, in June 2004; her son, Jack McDonald Lochhead, in September 1982; her parents, Marie Owre and Bjorn Storsand, both originally from Norway; her brother, Ralph Storsand, and sisters, Ruth Storsand and Margaret Feaver.

RONAN — John Daniel French, 89, of Ronan, died of natural causes on April 29, 2005, at his home. He was born June 2, 1915, to Lee D. French and Thora N. French at Minneapolis, and in 1921 the family moved back to the family homestead west of Polson. He graduated from Polson High School in 1931 and worked several summers in the Bob Marshall Wilderness while attending the University of Montana at Missoula.

WHITEFISH - The Ronan tennis team went to Whitefish last week where they faced stiff competition. The girls lost 6-1 and the boys fell 6-0.

POLSON — The Mission Valley Mariners played a double header against Eureka and the Bitterroot Bucs last Saturday. Mission jumped out early against Eureka and finished them off 15-6, but let the Bucs get the best of them, losing 9-6.
