All are invited to Big Arm Association potluck

It has been recorded that some coastal Vikings buried their noble dead by floating them out to sea on a mated ship, waiting for the moment when the evening sun was at the water's edge then launching a fiery arrow onto the deck so that the boundary between water, sun and fire was erased, and the passage to Valhalla would be assured. Today we no longer practice the ancestral ways, but when we think about them we begin to understand that it was grief and love that led us to believe in such magic.

We tried, we failed
Here's a latest bit of great wisdom and diplomacy from our present administration: On Monday, Feb. 20, the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, warned Iraqi politicians that they risk a loss of American support if they do not establish a genuine national unity government, saying the United States will not invest its resources in institutions run by sectarians.

Wal-Mart has been accommodating
Editor,
Among Other Things : They're out on a limb much of the time
Cherry orchard operators literally go out on a limb several times a year — gambling against such things as killing spring freezes after an unusually warm winter; weather that will permit bees to do their pollinizing jobs; hoping to avoid rain during the harvest season; having an adequate supply of pickers; coordinating deliveries to processing plants to avoid gridlocks that result in spoiled fruit. Then, of course, there's marketing, shipping, orchard maintenance, development of new strains of cherries, etc.
