Merle D. Schumacher, 93 years old, passed on in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. on Feb. 11. She was born to Clarence and Julia Vert in Big Arm, one of nine children. There are two brothers still living, Wesley Vert of Polson and Harold Vert of Beaverton, Ore.

POLSON — Herbert Eugene “Gene” Sevier, Jr., 95, of Polson, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 3 at his home.

POLSON — Marie Helen Hoff was born in Forsyth, Mont. to Rex Marvin and Eva Knaur Hoff. Mom started school at Sarpy Creek and attended rural schools until the family moved to a ranch east of Deer Lodge in May 1938. Mom graduated from Powell County High School in 1947.

SANDY, ORE. — Sandy resident James Bureau died at his home with his loving family beside him on Monday, Jan. 31 after a long battle with cancer. He was 61.
Seized items returned to sheriff's office critic
POLSON – A vocal critic of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, ex-sheriff’s deputy Terry Leonard, was silenced prior to last November’s heated elections when his websites “asksheriffluckylarson.com” and the original “nojaydoylesheriff.com” were shut down, his house searched and computers, electronic storage devices and printed e-mails confiscated. However, on Thursday afternoon, most of the property that was seized in the Sept. 30 raid of his Polson home, was returned after his attorneys contacted the county offices last week.

Pertussis on the rise
LAKE COUNTY — The number of Pertussis cases continues to rise along the Highway 93 corridor. The health departments for the CSKT, Lake, Missoula, and Flathead counties have responded to a total of 79 cases in the past five months. Since September 2010, a total of 28 cases have been identified in Lake County, four of which were identified in recent weeks.
