Elmore Ray Cass
Elmore Ray Cass, 79, of Polson passed away July 18, 2011. He and his twin sister, Elinor, were born at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Polson on Feb. 12, 1932 to Frances and Merritt Cass. Elmore graduated from Polson High School in 1950 and entered the Navy with some of his classmates in March, 1951. He served as a Radio operator during the Korean war on the USS Titania - AKA 13, and was honorably discharged in March 1955.

POLSON — Last week, Leonard James Irvine, the Ronan man accused of providing drugs, alcohol and cigarettes to teenage girls, pleaded guilty to criminal distribution of dangerous drugs and pursuant to a plea agreement will be sentenced to 25 years in the department of corrections, with 15 years suspended.

Tribal grizzly bear management zone closed
FLATHEAD RESERVATION — McDonald Peak and the surrounding areas in the Mission Mountains Tribal Wilderness will close to recreational activities on July 15 and remain closed until Oct. 1. This area known as the Grizzly Bear Management Zone is closed annually in order to avoid human disturbance to grizzly bear activity.

CHARLO — The Tribal Wildlife Management Program reports that a two year- old grizzly bear was found dead in the Charlo area on June 29. Tribal bear biologists were conducting a routine telemetry flight when they discovered the bear's radio collar on mortality mode.
