Sex offender apprehended
Following multiple tips to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Phillip Pierre, Jr. in Ronan shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. Pierre was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Lake County Detention Center on an outstanding $25,000 District Court warrant for a previous failing to register violation.

Three Montana residents were arrested on methamphetamine-related charges Monday in northern Idaho.

Second knife may have been used in stabbing
Authorities seek help in connection to March killing
POLSON — The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is enlisting the help of the public in their bid to gather information about a knife that may be connected to the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old John Pierre in March. The man who allegedly committed the stabbing is in custody and awaiting trial, but undersheriff Dan Yonkin indicated that new information may be emerging in the case.

“Major” Peter Ronan, Indian agent extraordinaire (a three-volume set of his Indian Service correspondence will soon be published), was a significant influence on the tribes from 1877 to 1893 when he died unexpectedly at age 55. During his long and respected tenure—and being a product of his times—he oversaw the “civilizing” of the tribes on the Flathead.

City manager reception set for Wednesday

POLSON — It was a normal Wednesday afternoon that Bella Allred, a 4-year-old Polson girl, went to the doctor’s office after having some stomach problems.

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes announce that they will sponsor a 2013 Fall Mack Days beginning October 4th running through November 17, 2013. Fall Mack Days will include the last 10 days straight fishing from November 8th through November 17th.

Accomplice in robbery pleads guilty
POLSON — The Spokane man who assisted in the burglary of the Ronan Subway last October pleaded guilty to a felony charges in Lake County District Court last week. According to court records, Jesus Lopez III, 22, admitted to his role as the getaway driver in the theft of over $700 from the store on Oct. 26, 2012. Lopez aided Santiago Quintana, a Subway employee tasked with closing the store that night. Quintana allegedly tampered with the door and entered twenty minutes later to steal the money, before being picked up by Lopez. In April, Quintana received a deferred three-year sentence for felony burglary charges.
Woman in custody following stabbing at Polson apartment
POLSON — A 33-year-old woman is in custody after an alleged stabbing that took place over Labor Day Weekend. Polson Police officers arrested Emilie Angel Yellowowl in the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 1, after responding to a reported stabbing at the Lakeview Village Apartments.

DAYTON — While Labor Day marks the end of the summer for most boaters on Flathead Lake, the South Flathead Yacht Club has made a tradition of ending the warm season with a bang.
PBGC staff plays for troops' families
POLSON — Two Polson men spent Labor Day on the links to support Patriot Golf Day. Flathead cherry growers earn coveted certification
Thirty growers from the Flathead Lake Cherry Growers (FLCG) association, a Montana agricultural cooperative since 1935, applied for Global GAP certification this year. Growers from this group of 30 were randomly selected for audits. All members passed and became GAP certified for the year 2013.
Biologists request information on nesting trumpeter swans
Wildlife Biologists with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes began a project to restore Trumpeter Swans as a resident species on the Flathead Indian Reservation in the mid-1990s. Subsequent efforts resulted in the release of 239 captive bred Trumpeter Swans on the Reservation since 2002, which has resulted in at least 87 successful nesting attempts that produced 146 fledgling cygnets since that time.
Itching for answers
PABLO— It is every child’s worst summer time nightmare; small, itchy bumps cropping up on their bodies after a day swimming on the lake. The virulent allergic reaction, caused by a parasite native to Flathead Lake, has been reported in considerably large numbers this year, prompting local scientific research groups to look more into the parasite’s life cycle.
