Smoke clouds practice schedule
As the dry conditions worsen, fires are becoming more frequent, causing unhealthy smoke conditions. With those conditions, schools in Lake County are having to make the call about where their sports teams can practice. She will be greatly missed as she was a wonderful mother, a loving wife and a compassionate friend to all who met her. Annie was born to John and Linnie Milgrim August 31, 1940 in Highland Park, Tenn. She grew up in a close-knit family with a strong work ethic.

Grace May (Martin, Sayler) Tanner, born Nov. 24, 1928 in Polson, passed away in Whitefish on August 7, 2015 at the age of 86. She was the fourth of eight children of Gaither and May Martin.
JEAN M. OBEREM
Jean M. Oberem passed away August 11 of a massive stroke in Seaside, Ore. with her daughter and granddaughters at her side. She was born March 4, 1927 to Carl and Althea Greiner in Polson, where she grew up. On July 1, 1949 she married the love of her live William Oberem, who preceded her in death in 1995. After marriage, they made their home in Columbia Falls.

Rosemary Houle Jackson Kugler died unexpectedly in her sleep on August 14, at the age of 77. She was born the youngest of seven in St. Ignatius on December 4, 1937 to Fredrick J. Houle and Hellen E. (Winslow) Houle.

George Robert Gould, aka “Lightning”, age 81, of Polson, passed away on Friday, August 7, at St. Joseph Hospital in Polson. He was born on June 28, 1934 to John Robert “Bob” and Mary Gould.

Marsha McDonald Rubino, age 70, passed away on Thursday, August 13 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center after a long battle with Type I Diabetes and cancer with her loving family and friends at her side. She was born on July 9, 1945 in Spokane, Wash. the daughter of Thomas R. McDonald and Lois Geraldine (Dahl) Cochran.
Missing hiker found dead
William Hendrix, the 59-year-old missing hiker from Eureka who did not return from Swan Crest hike he started Aug. 11, was found in the North Lost Creek area at around 4 p.m. Sunday, Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said.

At the Mission Mountain run in Ronan last weekend, there was a tight race in both the 5K and the 10K. Jason Delaney of Polson beat out the younger Paden Alexander of Mission in the 5K by 16 seconds to take first place. Nicole Brist took first in the women’s race with a time of 19:46.

Summer Heat- Pioneer Days basketball players battle it out on the pavement
The annual Pioneer Days 3 on 3 took place in Ronan on a very hot Saturday. Eighty-five teams participated this year, down two from last year. The event featured 13 divisions, a kids slam-dunk contest, and a scholarship presentation.
Water Daze raises over $3,000
The 13th Annual Water Daze took place on Saturday in Polson Bay. The one-mile swim is a fundraiser for the Lake Monster Swim Team. This year, the event brought in over $3,000 for the team. Eighty-three swimmers competed, slightly down from last year. The organizer of the event, Ali Bronsdon, the Aquatic Director at Mission Valley Aquatics, said it was a beautiful day for the event. “It was one of the better years we’ve had with the weather,” she said.
Hold on Tight- Bulls, broncs and cowboys in Ronan Pioneer Days rodeo
The Ronan Pioneer Days Rodeo took place last weekend over three days. On Friday night, it was all about the bulls and broncs, with saddle bronc riding, mini bull riding, and bull riding. The evening also featured a scholarship competition where students competed for money to help pay for school.

This past week, Bret Thompson, the Charlo girls’ basketball coach, was inducted into the Montana Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He has had a great coaching career, and I believe Charlo has been lucky to have him.
