Caring and especially understanding the people and the diverse communities within Lake County are paramount. Commitment and the willingness to serve the people are also crucial characteristics for Sheriff. Our current Sheriff Don Bell, has been faced with many difficult decisions since being elected four years ago. Not everyone has been happy with them.

Polson High School runner Bea Frissell captured the 1,600-meter dash recording a time of 5 minutes, 22.48 seconds in the Saphhire Invitaitonal. Frissell proceeded to win the 3,200-meter dash with a time of 11 minutes, 49.65 seconds. Lady Pirates’ teammates Molly Sitter and Naima Crowl were behind her. Sitter recorded a time of 12 minutes, 10.63 seconds to finish second and Crowl finished third with a time of 12 minutes, 23.97 seconds.

Area softball teams travel west to evade weather
Several area softball teams with Mission Valley area players among their rosters avoided some of the inclement weather that canceled numerous prep events statewide by scheduling a tournament out of state this past weekend. These included a pair of Polson-based teams, a trio of Missoula-based Avalanche teams and one Ronan-based squad. Games originally scheduled for Saturday were rained out, thereby telescoping the schedule into Sunday with shorter formats. Below are included selective outcomes from the tournament along with representative box scores so that readers will be aware of which players from our area are competing among which teams.

Virginia was born on March 10, 1935 in the farmhouse of her Danish parents, Immanuel and Edith (Hansen) Larsen, outside of Culbertson, Montana. She died in Springfield, Oregon on March 23, 2018 at the age of 83.

On March 15, 2018, Marjorie McElwain passed away peacefully in Missoula. Margie was a beautiful, smart, classy and strong woman. She was often quiet but had a wonderfully fun sense of humor. And she loved Montana, especially her Eastern Montana roots.
