Loraine Marie Caye

RONAN - Loraine Marie Caye, 55, of Ronan died of cancer Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, surrounded by her family at her home in Ronan.

Loraine was born on born Aug. 22, 1948, in Elmo to Louis Caye, Sr. and Lucy (Tenas) Caye. She grew up and attended schools in Elmo. She also attended the Ursuline academy in St. Ignatius, and schools in Polson and Flandreau, S.D. She graduated from Flandreau High School.

Loraine moved back to the Flathead Reservation and married Thomas Kallay. They had a daughter together and later divorced.

She worked as a Vista Volunteer and in various jobs for the Confederated Salish Kootenai Tribes. Loraine worked most of her career for the Social Security Administration in Missoula.

She also worked in vocational rehab at the Salish Kootenai College and most recently was working as a tribal liaison with the Kootenai National Forest in Libby.

Loraine liked huckleberry picking, camping, fishing, powwows, stick games, Bingo, spending time with family, crocheting and cedar basket making. She was very crafty and enjoyed sewing, playing jokes, telling stories and spending time with her grandson.

She was preceded in death by her father Louis Caye, Sr. and numerous other relatives.

She is survived by her daughter, Caryn Kallay (Jeff Bowden) and grandson Jackson, all of Ronan; her mother, Lucy Caye of Elmo; brothers and sisters, Jimmy Auld of Elmo, Earl Auld (Darlene) of Usk, Alaska, Douglas Caye of White Swan, Wash., Willie Caye (Arlene) of Ronan, Evelyn and Darrell Joseph of Elmo, Monica Caye (James IronMaker) of Elmo, Wanda Caye of Shemya, Alaska, Louis Caye, Jr.(Gigi) of Elmo, Alan Caye of Big Arm, Joan Caye (Alvin) of King Cove, Alaska, Debbie Caye of Elmo, Rosemary Caye of Elmo, Marilyn Caye of Elmo and Art Caye of Elmo, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Aug. 11 at the Elmo Hall with Father Gary Reller officiating. Burial followed at the Dayton Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Grogan Funeral Home, Polson.
