Stop attacking John Kerry

| August 11, 2004 12:00 AM

Editor,

How can any decent person not feel disgusted by the Bush League's attacks against the wartime service of John Kerry? The current smear campaign by Bush's Texas cronies against Kerry is the most dishonorable and disgusting campaign ever.

John Kerry served two terms with honor in Vietnam. He earned a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts in combat.

Upon completion of his tours of duty, Kerry continued to serve his country by speaking out against the lies and deception of politicians who were using the Vietnam disaster to advance their own careers.

I suppose this campaign shows the depth of Bush's respect for combat veterans. While extolling us to support our troops, he's allowing a true hero to be maligned to further his own career, just as he did against John McCain in 2000.

Perhaps this is what we should expect from someone who uses his daddy's power and prestige to get an Air National Guard placement to avoid combat and then go AWOL for the end of his tour (see New York Times, 7/23/04).
