Kane Funke

POLSON - Lance Corporal Kane Funke, 20, of Kalispell, a member of the United States Marine Corps, died of injuries received in Iraq on Friday , Aug. 13, 2004.

Kane was born July 12, 1984, in Missoula. He attended grade school in Polson, and high school in Kalispell, before graduating from Heritage High School in Vancouver, Wash. He also attended a Sea Cadet program at Vancouver. He skipped his high school graduation to enter the United States Marine Corps boot camp.

He is survived by his mother, Stephanie Funke of Kalispell; a sister, Ashley Johnston of Kalispell; grandparents, Tom and Patricia Funke of Polson; uncles, Tom Funke, Gregg and Kathy Funke, Todd Funke, Eric and Julie Funke, Matt and Theresa Funke, and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 19 (today), at the Grogan Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7 p.m. also in the Grogan Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Father Gary Reller. Burial with full military honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.

A memorial education fund in Kane's name for his sister Ashley, will be set up at Community Bank, Polson..
