Bison Range comments are needed now

| August 25, 2004 12:00 AM

Editor,

Negotiations between the USFWS, the Department of the Interior and the Confederated Tribes as they relate to transfer of maintenance of the Bison Range from the USFWS to the Tribes have been finalized and are now listed in the Federal Register for the 90-day comment period, which will end of October.

Negotiations on the transfer were often (done) in secrecy, behind closed doors. To grant the Tribes authority at any level over any employees at the Bison Range, or any other federal facility, will certainly set a precedent that will pave the way for other Tribes to request like authority on federal facilities nationwide.

As set forth by the U.S. Constitution, all citizens of the U.S. are to be granted equal treatment regardless of "race, creed, color or national origin." Congress has erred by passing laws that divide rather than laws that unite us as one nation.

Write to the Dept. of the Interior in Washington, D.C., the USFWP in Denver, Colo., and to the Bison Range at Moiese and let them know where you send - and do it now.
