Capital and labor need each other
Editor,
The United States is well on its way to self-destruction.
Capital and labor need each other. Labor needs capital to provide jobs and consumer goods. Capital needs labor to produce and buy consumer goods.
They are totally dependent on each other. Their mutual cooperation is vital to our economy. Setting capital and labor against each other is an evil political ploy.
Class warfare is a Marxist gimmick used to divide and conquer. The exorbitant demands of labor through politics have driven much of our industry overseas for survival.
Taxing high incomes to redistribute wealth is self-destructive for consumers because only consumers pay taxes.
The increased taxes trickle down in high prices so that by the time wholesalers and retailers mark up the products, taxes cost the consumer double. Half is lost in inflation and only the original tax to capital reaches the government paid for by the consumer. Taxing capital therefore adds a double burden on consumers.
The Bush doctrine works because lowering taxes on capital trickles down to double savings on consumers and encourages business to expand. The Kerry doctrine, as all socialism, is self-destructive. More and more taxes keep draining more earnings until collapse occurs.
The devout Pilgrims tried socialism at Plymouth colony and starved. Governor David Bradford instituted private property and private enterprise and it thrived. Bradford concluded that if such dedicated, serious, desperate people, as the Pilgrims, could not make socialism work, no one could. Only fools would attempt it in a less desperate situation such as ours.
There are still plenty of fools when election time comes. They vote for more and broader social schemes, but when all is socialized, total collapse occurs. It took socialism 70 years to consume Russia. America has had social security 70 years and is tottering from the weight of extensive entitlements. Collapse is imminent. The cost of health care and all the entitlements could well end it all.
