Helen Elizabeth Sevier

KALISPELL - Helen Elizabeth Sevier, 89, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, with her family by her side at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Helen was born to Curtis and Verna Shoemaker on March 29, 1915, at Mitchville, Iowa. She joined two brothers and became part of a family of 10. The family later moved to Creston. Helen graduated from Flathead County High School and Modern Beauty School in Missoula.

She worked for a short time until meeting the love of her life while roller skating at Lake Blaine. She and Gene Sevier were married on Dec. 3, 1939. They were married for 64 happy years.

Helen and Gene ranched and farmed at Dayton in the early years and at Round Butte, for over 40 years. She became a very adept farm girl, working side by side with Gene, while raising two daughters.

Helen was a wonderful cook, sewed beautifully, and raised a great garden. Her favorite hobby was square dancing, which they sometimes did three nights a week. Also, Helen enjoyed bowling and liked to beat Gene at cards.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carl and John; a sister, Marguerite; a granddaughter, Crystal; and a son-in-law, Dan McAllister.

She is survived by her husband, Gene; daughters, Janet and LeRoy Lafrinire of Polson, and Margaret McAllister of Ronan; three grandchildren, Leslie Muth of Pablo, Rayne Lafrinire of Polson, and Kelly and Tanya McAllister of Ronan; eight great-grandchildren, Reece, Ryan, Mateel, Tisa, Jona, Trevar, Kane, and Trapper; one great-great-grandson, Brendon; her brothers and sister, Hugh and Virginia of Kalispell, Grace Bell of Washington, George and Bette of Oregon, Mary and Stan Preskitt of Texas, Glen and Charlotte of Kansas, Doris Lockridge of Washington, and Stan and Daisy of Kalispell, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Helen were Aug. 23, at the Pablo Christian Church with Pastor Andy Campbell officiating.

Memorials may be made to the choice of the donor.

Arrangements were under the direction of Grogan Funeral Home, Polson.

Shrider's Mortuary of Ronan assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
