There are some irritants by nature

| December 1, 2004 12:00 AM

Editor,

The issue of the day is zoning, or should I say density allocation? Folks, if it walks like a duck, sits on a pond, and squawks when startled, there is a high probability it is a duck.

Zoning. Do you feel that three elected commissioners have the right to take away a good portion of your rights of ownership without your vote, or better yet, just compensation for your loss as prescribed by the laws of eminent domain?

It is the duty of our elected officials to insure public safety and promote orderly commerce. It is a violation of their sworn oath of office to impose or take any action that violates the rights of the citizen without the consent of the governed (those affected by their actions).

Density allocation, the new term for zoning, will seriously affect the individual's rights to pursue the benefits of ownership. If allowed to pass, it will dictate how the individual can use the land and how that land can be passed forward to future owners. For this reason I strongly urge all landowners in our county to immediately contact our county commissioners and demand that further public review be made with the final proposals put to the vote of the governed.

This is urgent, folks. On Dec. 18, 2004, this move by the commissioner will become law.
