POLSON-Blood, sweet and tears.
Polson High School, Mission High School and 10 other schools competed in the 30th annual Polson Invitational wrestling tourney this past Saturday.
"We had a good day, Kalispell is tough," said Polson head coach Bob Owen.
Polson's Conlin Benson defeated Whitefish's Danny Neff to win first place at 112 pounds.
"Denson beating Neff was a great surprise," said Owen.
The Pirate's Steven Feistner pinned Mission's Kyle Middlemist to claim third place at 119.
The Pirate's Kaine Zetterberg pinned Whitefish's Matt Sharr to claim first at 130 pounds. Logan Kugler won the 160-pound weight class with the win over David Lauteret from Whitefish.
Polson's Kevin Owen pinned Kalispell's Chris Thompson and took first place at 189 pounds. With the win this year Owen now can take pride in winning first place all four years at the Polson Invitational.
Polson finished second with 176 team points and Kalispell won first with 244 points.
The Pirates faced Whitefish and Columbia Falls for the first time this year.
"We did well. I was happy with it, but we have some kids that need to pick it up," said Owen.
Mission's Jake Bosley won third place at 160 pounds after defeating Cody Cousins from Corvallis.
"He wrestled really well," said Mission head coach Colby Cline.
Mission was missing a couple wrestlers who did not meet the 10-practice requirement because of the Thanksgiving break.
Kyle Middlemist took fourth place after wrestling against Polson's Steven Feistner. Mission finished in 8th place with 56 team points.
