Chiefs improve on mat against Broncs
RONAN — Seth Clary finished up a strong dual meet for Ronan wrestling versus Frenchtown with a major decision over Curtis Sprague at 98 lbs. He tossed his opponent around like a rag doll at the end of a 45-40 Frenchtown victory that was filled with forfeits.
"Seth also wrestled an exhibition match earlier that took a lot of energy out of him," said coach Ryan Fisher. "He could have done a lot better if he didn't have to wrestle twice."
For all the positive words Fisher had to say about Clary, he absolutely raved about Curtis Flesch at 171 lbs.
"Every time he steps on the mat, he improves," said Fisher. "He listens, and he's going to come on strong for us as the season progresses."
There were several open weight classes in the meet, and when both teams have openings they alternate forfeits.
"This was mainly a scheduling problem," said Fisher. "Having both teams in a Monday dual coming off weekend tournaments was hard, but we'll wrestle whenever they schedule us."
Ronan's weekend tournament at Corvallis provided a chance at redemption for the Chiefs.
"Our first round was terrible - we wrestled the worst I've ever seen," said Fisher. "But we had a team meeting, then they came out and were the best I've ever seen."
Seven wrestlers placed for Ronan at Corvallis and Dion Brown was a champion at 152 lbs.
"Tournaments like that are important because you can bring down the JV wrestlers too and everyone gets some mat time," said Fisher.
