Concerns expressed over zoning rules

| November 19, 2004 12:00 AM

Editor,

My appreciation to Shelley Lawrence and the Lake County Leader for bringing out the implications and facts on the Density Map and Zoning Regulations proposed for rural Lake County.

The county commissioners held a meeting in the Lake County courthouse Wednesday of last week, attended by 20-30 individuals from different areas of the county - people with a broad spectrum of occupations. These people had serious concerns of how this proposed zoning would affect the landowners of the valley.

After approximately three hours of testimony, most of it in the form of pleading with the county commissioner to delay this zoning plan until the rural landowners of he county had a chance to respond to this proposed zoning, the board rejected the majority of the audience's concerns and unanimously voted to adopt a resolution of intent to adopt the Lake County Density Map and Zoning Regulations.

In accordance with State law, and as outlined in the Leader article of Nov. 11, the public has only 30 days to act to overturn this zoning plan. Forty percent of the freeholders within this proposed zoning district, whose names appear on the latest completed assessment roll, will need to protest the establishment of the district and adoption of the regulations.

You are urged to contact the county commissioners or the Lake County Planning staff to see how this zoning affects you personally, and you need to act accordingly;
