They've made a mess

Editor,

I quote and question:

"Decisiveness!"

Decisiveness in what? Is decisiveness in the face of obvious miscalculations, obvious errors in judgment, obvious continuing loss of lives of brave young soldiers in Iraq, and obvious lack of support by the world community regarding Iraq something for which to be proud and build a re-election campaign upon?

"Resolve!" For what purpose? Resolve in the light of defeat? Resolve just for the sake of resolve? Resolve because it is a great sounding word and will resonate with folks who respond to sound bites and little else?

"Stay the course!" Does staying the course with stubborn resolve, ignoring the total ignorance of the Iraqi resolve and the depth Middle Eastern anger at many years of U.S. foreign policies culminating with our invasion and occupation of Iraq, make any sense at all?

"The world is better without Saddam Hussein!" Give me a break. We, the American public should be throwing out our present leadership and trying a new tack. Iraq was no threat to us. Sanctions, Saddam's advancing age and senile ways, Iraq's total infrastructure collapse because of Saddam's bleeding that nation, and Saddam's paranoia about any infiltration, terrorist or otherwise, all were clear evidence from the mid to late 1990s of Iraq's total lack of threat to any other nation in the world.

I would vote for President Bush in a heartbeat if I thought his policies had any chance of succeeding. But he and his cadre of advisors have made a total mess of things and it is time to clean house.
