Groundbreaking marks U.S. 93 construction start
A groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 14 at the Jocko Bridge reconstruction area at Mile Marker 19 marked the beginning of construction of Highway 93 between Evaro to Polson.
The ceremony celebrated the "Spirit of Place " for "The Peoples Way" safety improvement project.
The project was named "The Peoples Way" because of the many groups and parties whose interests came together on the project that extends 56.3 miles from Evaro to Polson, traversing the Flathead Indian Reservation for all but about one mile. This is the first in a number of projects extending through 2009 that will create one of the most environmentally sound highway projects ever constructed in the United States.
Participating in the groundbreaking were Montana Lt. Governor Karl Ohs, Montana Dept. of Transportation Director David Galt, Tribal Council Chairman Fred Matt, and Federal Highway Administration Montana Division Administrator Janice Brown.
