The Polson Pirates varsity football team came out revved up, and accelerated from zero to 14 points in less than five minutes of play. When the final seconds ticked off the clock, the senior-heavy Polson team had shut out the visiting Browning Running Indians, 33-0.

"There were no major surprises," Polson coach Scott Wilson said. "It was just an all-around good effort."

Senior Terry Lundeen excelled on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Lundeen racked up four tackles, three assists, and caused a fumble. On offense, Lundeen rushed nine times for 32 yards, had three receptions for 50 yards and scored a touchdown.

"He had an all-around good game," Wilson said.

Linebacker Mac Gordon led the defense with five tackles and five assists, and also caused a fumble.

The Pirates' offensive effort was balanced as they spread the ball around a squad deep with experienced running backs and wide receivers, rushing 45 times for 184 yards. Junior running back Andy Nelson scored twice on short runs. The coach lauded the front line's blocking that helped quarterback Joe Locke complete five of ten passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Pirates held the Indians to just 71 yards, and with the exception of a pass that was called back on a penalty, never allowed Browning into Polson territory.

Not bad for just 13 days of practice.

The 51-man Pirate squad travels to Butte Central Saturday night, where they'll face "good-skilled kids and a solid football program," Wilson said. "It should be a good contest."
