The forthcoming election gives us something think about
Editor,
I am thinking about the forthcoming election, and as a consequence of that election, what kind of laws will be enacted? And afterward how those laws will affect our future and the future of our children.
Already there has been an encroachment on our right of free speech. The irony of this is because of the distortion of the meaning of "tolerance". This has become a modern buzzword. Tolerance used to be considered as the right to allow others to have opinions different from our own. I like what Abraham Lincoln said about this: "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to death your right to say it."
Today the Political Correct crowd brands all who do not agree with them as being intolerant…but they themselves are intolerant of those who deagree with them!
As we know, both Communist governments and most Moslem societies do not tolerate freedom of opinion or religion. Today in America we see creeping signs of this very same thing.
We pride ourselves in being a democracy, and yet we do not allow a vote to be taken in our Senate for the appointment of judges. This is hardly representative government by the people when the minority party uses these kinds of tactics to force its will on those who do not agree with them.
I love my country. I hope everyone with faith in the living God will pray as they go to the polls on November 8 and do their duty!
