POLSON — Dorothy Keene, 89, of Polson died of natural causes April 4 in Polson.

Dorothy was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Giltner, Neb., and spent most of her childhood in Belleville, Ill. She graduated from St. Luke's Nursing Program, St. Louis, Mo., in February 1937 where she began her career as an RN. which she continued for 51 years.

Dorothy later moved to Oak Grove, Ore. with her small son, Andrew, and continued her service to others. Raising a son alone was not a common or easy thing, but she excelled as it as with so many other things she undertook.

Wherever Dorothy went, whatever she did, she found steadfast friendship that lasted a lifetime. No one who got to know her could help cherishing her for herself and her selfless giving to others.

Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church both in Oregon and later in Montana. She not only attended her church but also practiced her faith in her daily life always strongly supporting the missions sponsored by her church.

After her son and family moved to Polson in 1994, Dorothy joined them in 1995. She enjoyed once again being close to her family, puttering in her flowerbed, marveling at the ever-changing aspects of Flathead Lake, doing crossword puzzles and watching the birds out her window. She spent the last two years at the home of her son, his wife and her granddaughter. She passed away peacefully on April 4, 2005.

Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Ophie Keene and her granddaughter Marissa Keene; many loving cousins and a host of friends. There were few days when her laughter wasn't heard, her caring heart wasn't appreciated and she will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8, at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russ Barber officiating. Cremation has taken place. Gifts to United Methodist Women to support missions would be appreciated.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory, Polson.
