Margaret Ann (Peg) Harriman

ST. IGNATIUS — The spirit of Margaret Ann (Peg) Harriman, 76, of St. Ignatius left on April 5, 2005.

Margaret Ann Harriman was born on May 4, 1928, to Laurence and Margaret (DeVoe) Drew of Somers. Peg was raised on Juniper Bay, south of Somers, where she spent her days on the lake skipping rocks or in the gardens with her father. She attended grade school at Somers and high school in Kalispell.

After graduating high school she went to the University of Montana in Missoula where she studied botany and graduated with a bachelor's degree in botany in 1950. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority.

While attending the University she met her future husband, David Harriman of New York. Peg and Dave married April 14, 1951, and moved to Coeur d' Alene where they worked for the State of Idaho Fisheries Dept. running a hatchery on Lake Coeur d'Alene.

In 1952 they brought a small private hatchery on Post Creek, north of St. Ignatius, where they lived and worked out their lives and raised their family, two daughters and two sons. For 45 years of working the hatchery and raising their family, Peg and Dave worked with many friends developing environmental awareness and encouraged others. Peg was involved with the charter of the Flathead Resources Organization (FRO) and later became its chairperson.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents; brother "Ivan Algren;" husband David Harriman, and a daughter, Cynthia Harriman Larson.

She is survived by her daughter, Polly Harriman and husband John of the Bay Area, Calif.; sons, Alan (Sue) Harriman of St. Ignatius, Brooke Harriman of Red Springs, N.C.; her grandchildren, Ryan Bramlette, James David Harriman, Katie, Rachel, and Nick Harriman, Laura and Steven Larson, McKenzie, Lane, Justin, and Megan Harriman, and nephew Charles Mathews Dick III, of Austin, Texas.

There are many close friends she wished to thank for their support: Richard Eggert, Connie Niemeyer, Phyllis Castor, Don and Nancy Smith, Mary Brock and so many others we are unable to list.

The family had a service in Peg's garden on Saturday April 9.

The family requests that donations be made to the Public Radio Station, KUFM in Missoula, which was a constant companion. Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory, Polson.
