If only we had been asked

Editor,

I commend Jamie Hamel for agreeing to an interview to set the record straight on the questionable appointment within Tribal Administration. It was the misunderstanding of the Tribal membership that the reason she stepped down was the rigors of travel required of the chairman and the vice-chairperson. She should be applauded for thinking of her family and putting them first.

It is also good to know that we each had an equal chance of being considered for this position; we needed only be asked by Joe Dupuis. I think we, the membership, were extremely harsh to feel that she was given special treatment because of her position on the council.

I see much strength in Jamie and think she should run this fall for the council. I would suggest she introduce legislation that would have each council person elected by their constituents in each council person's district. This way, there would be no doubt that she was reelected by her constituents, her community.
