Spider sculpture put in middle of road

| August 4, 2005 12:00 AM

Editor,

After dark on Monday night, July 25, someone took a large sculpture of a spider from the yard at the Wild Plum Station in Dixon and put it in the middle of Highway 200. Later, several people saw a semi truck swerve radically out of its way, nearly losing control. Thankfully, nothing serious happened.

This is a letter to the parents of the children who might have done this. I say that, because I would like to think there are no adults who would do something so thoughtless, so ruthless, perhaps over a petty grievance they may have against us, the owners.

My message is simple: For a few moments of imagined fun, your child may have cost that truck driver his life, or the lives of others who may have been walking down the road. He probably has children of his own, a wife, people who love him and count on him.

Please talk to your children about accountability. Actions have consequences, sometimes terrible ones. The rest of us also have to live with those consequences for the rest of our lives. We're all in this together.
