Get candidates' views on golf course
Editor,
I am a golfer. An inveterate golfer, many would say. And over the 13+ years I have lived in Polson, I suppose that my frequent play at the city-owned public golf course proves my commitment to the game.
My commitment to the golfing business in Polson, however, goes well beyond just playing and competing on the fine 18 hole course three or four times each week. My involvement has expanded, over the years, to being involved on the Polson Golf Assn. Board and also the Polson Golf Board (an advisory board to the Polson City Council).
Polson does not have an abundance of income producing ventures. And any municipality desperately needs income. The Polson's growing golfing business is a business which we most assuredly need to nurture, improve, support and grow. It is a major attraction for out-of-town tournaments, for the important tourist trade, and for the inevitable growth of our strategically located city of Polson.
This letter is one, of what I hope will be many by concerned area residents, to alert the public to the importance of the upcoming election of new Polson city council members. The reason I say this is because of the extreme impact that our fine golfing complex has upon the economy, the image, and the balanced growth of Polson.
You will, in the near future, be considering candidates running for seats on the Polson city council. It would be well to ask them their views on the various income producing businesses for our fine community, listening with special attention to attitudes about one of our greatest assets — besides the lake — the 27-hole Polson golfing complex, including the Mondo Grill owned by Burt and Vicki Cannon, which is growing in popularity by leaps and bounds.
Regardless of your interest in golf per se, I urge you to consider the fact that this city-owned 27- hole golfing complex is now, and will be in the future, a major, major factor in our town's income stream.
